Recoloring
Recoloring needs can arise for so many reasons. From having the wrong sample delivered to just not having time to photograph all the different colors that a product comes in. Or a creative image is so great, but it only captured one color way. Whatever the reason, a keen eye is needed for accurate product color matching. And that's not just in the product, but also the reflections and interactive elements of the image to ensure it's an effective composite!
A Case of Missing Samples
In the left image, a large sample of the yellow candle was not sent by the vendor, but it still needed to be photographed. I was provided with an image from the photo studio that had a large sample of the green color way, and then tasked to turn that green convincingly into yellow to match its tiny mate.
Great Campaign Image, Wrong Product Color
Sometimes the right sample doesn't make it on a campaign shoot like it's supposed to. In the case of the image on the right, the grey bucket hat made it, but the yellow version did not. With the forward thinking of a good stylist combined with my color matching in post, we were able to make two effective product shots out of one stellar campaign image.
Outdated Product Sample!
The image on the right was the answer to a buyer's lament. The Vendor had new package design for their product, but couldn't send it in time for that product to go live on site. So the old packaging stood in for the shoot and I recolored the product to match the vendor's new packaging, saving time and making the launch deadline possible.
Multiple Colorways, One shot
A beautiful scene, a campaign shoot, and only one truck to transport all the furniture. And this one has lots of little slats! In cases like this, separating the product from the background is a labor of love for seeing the final image come to life. This bistro set comes in 4 different colors, and typically comes as a set (all in one color, unlike the mismatch that was taken on location!). The product was masked out, color was matched to all the different samples, and this image got its day in the sun many times over!
Right Image:
-Left chair, table and bench were all the cool color way and were adjusted to match the warmer wood verision of the product
Left Image:
-Cream seat cushions were recolored to grey at the request of the buyers in an attempt to boost sales on that color way
Left Image:
-Table was recolored and warmed to match bench
